BAY RIDGE AND CAPITOL HILL — BROOKLYN CONGRESSMEMBER NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS HAS REMAINED RESOLUTE in fighting the toll plan known as congestion pricing, even as the MTA announced that a landmark bridge in her district will undergo structural improvements. Expressing anger at a federal judge in New Jersey after he refused to issue an injunction that would have halted the plan on the day before it took effect, released a statement on Saturday, Jan. 4.  “Unfortunately, yesterday Federal Judge Leon Gordon did not grant a temporary injunction to halt the congestion cash grab that starts tomorrow. We will continue to relentlessly fight this unfair tax on commuters and will have our days in court in both New York and New Jersey as we explore our options to stop the Hochul-MTA scheme from the federal level.” Malliotakis said she spoke with President-elect Donald Trump, who also opposes congestion pricing.

Malliotakis vowed to “use every option at our disposal to stop this unjust invasion of New Yorkers’ wallets.” Calling out a recent spate of violent crimes in the subway system, she said, “If Hochul actually wants commuters to ride our subways, she should focus on making public transportation safe instead of taxing commuters into submission with this unfair congestion pricing scheme.”

Malliotakis is a plaintiff in one of the ongoing lawsuits against Congestion Pricing with UFT and Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella. The MTA announced on Monday, Jan. 6 that RFPs were issued for reconstruction of the Verrazzano Bridge’s Brooklyn-side ramps and the dehumidification of its main cables.
