The first Four Hills Tournament (ger. Vierschanzentournee) was organized in late 1952. Moreover, the Four Hills Tournament has also been a part of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup since that event was established 45 years ago in 1979-80.
NEW ORLEANS — The winners! Branch had particular praise for Notre Dame’s coach, 38-year-old Marcus Freeman, who, with quarterback Riley Leonard, led the team to its first major bowl (Sugar Bowl) win in 31 years. The game had been postponed following the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans.

MONTENEGRO — Man-made bullets still being fired in all corners of the globe: People light candles for the victims of Wednesday’s shooting rampage in Cetinje, in Podgorica, Montenegro, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. The shooting was a rage incident that a bar patron, identified as Aco Martinovic, instigated following a brawl with the bar’s owner and his family before killing them and his own family members. He then fled, and a police search led to a roadblock in and out of the city. The gunman, who later killed himself, was described as dangerous and with a record of erratic violent behavior, Czech police told the Associated Press.
The region known as Small Montenegro is known for its gun culture, with many residents owning weapons. Wednesday’s shooting marked the second such incident in three years.

The zoo’s famous Penguin Beach recreates a South American shore landscape home for the birds. The Annual Stocktake 2025 involves not only taking a census of its Humboldt penguins but also each individual mammal, bird, reptile and invertebrate, including the habitat’s Critically Endangered Asiatic lions.
Counted among the London Zoo’s residents are 65 Humboldt penguins, “including five new arrivals who will form important new breeding pairs in the Spring for the European breeding programme to conserve this vulnerable species,” the Zoo reports.
