Mayoral candidate Walden receives endorsement from 58 former top prosecutors
CITYWIDE — NYC MAYORAL CANDIDATE JIM WALDEN on Friday received the endorsement of 58 former top federal and local prosecutors. In a letter, Walden’s backers pointed to his history as federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, extolling his integrity and history of “building numerous successful cases against mobsters, narcotics traffickers and other lawbreakers.” Signees include former NYC District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.; Richard Donoghue, former Acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General and U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York; Seth DuCharme, former U.S. Attorney for the EDNY and a top official at DOJ; Alan Vinegrad, former U.S. Attorney for EDNY; Debra Wong Yang, former U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California; and many others.
“As former local and federal prosecutors, we enthusiastically support Jim Walden and the positive impacts he will have as the mayor of New York City in preventing crime, innovating strategies for effective policing, and ensuring public safety and fair treatment of its residents,” the letter reads in part.
The endorsements buttress Walden’s positioning as a law and order candidate. He has pledged to grow the police force and beef up police training, increase transparency in city government, implement a zero-tolerance policy for corruption — and “get the grifters out of city hall.”
