Brooklyn man charged with attempted murder for pushing man onto tracks

BROOKLYN & CHELSEA — POLICE HAVE CHARGED a Brooklyn man, Kamel Hawkins, 23, with attempted murder and assault for pushing a 45-year-old man onto the subway tracks in Chelsea, abc7ny reports. The victim was pushed off the 18th Street subway platform at 1:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve in the path of the 1 Train. First responders removed him from the tracks and transported him to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in stable condition. He suffered from broken ribs and a fractured skull. The victim and the alleged assailant do not know each other, abc7ny reports. 

Hawkins was in custody less than an hour after the attack.  He has nine prior arrests, on charges of disorderly conduct, assault, assaulting a police officer, harassment and possession of weapons, abc7ny reports.
