PROSPECT PARK – BROOKLYNITES AND REVELERS were left disappointed on New Year’s Eve after the Grand Army Plaza drone spectacular planned for Tuesday night was called off with just hours to go over severe weather conditions, reports Gothamist. A spokesperson for the Prospect Parks Alliance said that a forecast that called for heavy winds and ground lightning led the group to believe the show would be too dangerous for watchers, noting that this year’s holiday appeared “cursed.”

Initial plans for the holiday had called for a fireworks show, which along with a similar demonstration over Central Park was canceled over drought conditions; Central Park’s fireworks had also been set to be replaced with a drone show – but that, too, was canceled, after the organizers’ drone vendor was involved in a serious accident in Florida.
