‘Christmas’ baby decides instead to enter world on New Year’s Day
BOROUGH PARK — THE FIRST BABY BORN AT MAIMONIDES HEALTH this year is Malia Carrasquillo, weighing eight pounds, nine ounces and measuring 21 inches long. Malia, born at 3:54 am on Jan. 1 to parents Marie Aserat and Mark Carrasquillo of Crown Heights, apparently chose her own due date. Although her original due date was set for Christmas, Malia apparently wanted some more time in the womb and came along a week later.
“We have been joking that she only gets one present. I think she heard us, ” said Aserat. “…You make plans and God laughs.” The family received a special New Year’s gift basket from Maimonides Health, containing diapers, toys, burpies, onesies and a wine glass for the new year.
However, Malia may have chosen to wait a bit too long, as a set of newborn twins reportedly beat her to the title of Brooklyn’s first bab(ies) of 2025. The twins were born at 12:01 and 12:02 a.m. respectively at Kings County Hospital to parents who also live in Crown Heights.
