Dom Napoletano leads NYS Bar Association in honoring Jimmy Carter’s legacy
The New York State Bar Association, under the leadership of President Domenick Napoletano, joined the nation in mourning the loss of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. In a statement reflecting on Carter’s extraordinary life, Napoletano emphasized the former president’s profound impact on public service, human rights, and global health.
“The New York State Bar Association mourns the passing of Jimmy Carter at 100 years old. Our longest-lived president leaves a long legacy of service to this country and its citizens,” Napoletano said. “From his beginnings as a humble peanut farmer to his service in the U.S. Navy — including a course in nuclear power plant operation at Union College in Schenectady, New York — he dedicated his life to civil service.”
As president, Carter’s leadership focused on protecting the environment and advancing human rights worldwide. Napoletano said that Carter’s influence extended far beyond his time in office.
“Even after his presidency, he dedicated himself to the well-being of all people — including building homes for Habitat for Humanity in his home state of Georgia and championing global diplomacy. His Carter Center successfully led an international effort to eradicate Guinea-worm disease,” Napoletano said.
“President Carter’s commitment to democracy and global health is an inspiration to us all,” he concluded, extending thoughts to Carter’s family and loved ones.
