Anarchist group organizing NYE demonstration outside MDC

BROOKLYN — A LOCAL ANARCHIST GROUP IS set to hold a “noise demo” New Year’s Eve rally outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, according to a press release. NYC Anarchist Black Cross says it intends to demonstrate support for incarcerated people and those the group considers political prisoners, highlighting MDC inmate Luigi Mangione, who is accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson earlier this month. The rally is not a rebellion, the group says: they are “inviting revelers to come, not in an appeal to authority, to speak truth to power, or any other contrivance, but rather to stand with others, and show direct solidarity to those on the other side of the wall.”

The NYC ABC says it has been holding year-end rallies at prisons for over a decade.
