BROWNSVILLE — POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED the 35-year-old man stabbed to death at a homeless shelter in Brownsville, Brooklyn, last week as Bronx resident Robbie Miller. According to the NYPD, police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at 1691 East New York Ave., a former Days Inn, at 6:14 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26. They discovered Miller lying in the lobby of the shelter with lacerations to the neck and abdomen. EMS transported him to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. According to Pix11 and other outlets, Miller was a social worker at the shelter.

The suspect in the stabbing is described as being about 6 feet tall and about 225 pounds. He was last seen wearing all black, with a ski mask and a baseball cap.

According to NYPD’s CompStat, Miller’s homicide could bring the number of murders in the 73rd Precinct so far this year to 20, compared to seven in 2023, an increase of roughly 187%. Locals told the New York Post they believe the large number of hotel-to-shelter conversions in the neighborhood has led to the increase.
