Toy drives brighten holidays for struggling families

BOROUGHWIDE — STATE SENATOR KEVIN PARKER AND HIS TEAM HOSTED A LOCAL 21st Annual Free Toys for Tots Giveaway last Friday, Dec. 20, distributing more than 1,000 toys to local families, churches, daycares and organizations, ensuring that children in his district (from Kensington to Bergen Beach) have a joy-filled holiday.

The New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters delivered 400 toys to children throughout Brooklyn and nearly 2,000 total throughout the city.  Partnering with local elected officials and community organizations, the union hosted several events in Brooklyn and other areas.

NYCHA’s Bay View Houses in Canarsie got their special Toy Drive treat thanks to collaboration with the Bay View Residents Association and the Bay View PACT Partner Team. The event transformed the community center at the affordable housing complex into a winter wonderland, where hundreds of children received holiday gifts, took photos with Santa and enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate. Also part of this outreach were RDC Development, a joint venture between MDG Design & Construction and Wavecrest Management.

The Tablet’s Bright Christmas Fund provided much-needed support to families at St. Michael-St. Malachy Parish in Brooklyn. The funds helped bring joy to children and families in need with gifts and celebrations.
