MANHATTAN — THE SUSPECT IN THE KILLING OF A MAJOR HEALTH INSURANCE CEO now has more to worry about than charges from the Manhattan District Attorney. Luigi Mangione, who was extradited to New York on Thursday following the Dec. 4 fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in Manhattan, now faces federal charges of murder and stalking, Gothamist and other sources reported on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg had already charged Mangione with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a forged instrument. The indictment alleges that the suspect arrived in NYC in late November having already plotted to kill Thompson, and in the early morning of Dec. 4, ambushed the executive, who was on route to an investors conference, and shot him from behind with a homemade “ghost gun.”

Prosecutors have said that Mangione’s motive was anger at the medical insurance industry, although he was not a customer of UnitedHealthcare.
