MTA puts summer fare hike on the table
CITYWIDE — THE MTA ON WEDNESDAY approved a financial plan that could lead to a fare hike of as much as 4%, CBS reported. The fare increase could go into effect in August of next year, but must go through a public comment period first and then be approved by the MTA board. Fares were increased 15% this past summer, to $2.90. The decision to raise fares comes ahead of the $9 congestion pricing toll on vehicles taking effect in January.
MTA CEO Janno Lieber discussed the potential raise at the final agency board meeting of the year.
