WASHINGTON, D.C. – THE HOUSE COMMITTEE on Ethics, in a closed-door vote earlier this month, approved the release of a report on sexual misconduct accusations made against former Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, according to sources familiar with the vote, reports CNN. The ten-member bipartisan committee, which includes Long Island Republican Rep. Andrew Garbarino, had in an earlier open vote declined to approve the findings’ release, split down party lines. Gaetz resigned from the House of Representatives last month following a failed nomination bid for Attorney General, shortly before the planned release of the results of his ethics investigation. House Republicans have argued that as Gaetz is no longer a congressman, the report should remain sealed. The report is set to be released later this month.

Gaetz was accused of having two sexual encounters in 2017 with a then-17-year-old. The woman, now an adult, testified in private before the ethics committee. Gaetz has strenuously denied the allegations.
