Rep. Clarke urges lame-duck Congress to protect immigrant communities
CAPITOL HILL — PROTECTING IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES DURING the 118th Congress’ lame duck session is urgent, says Brooklyn Congressmember Yvette D. Clarke (D-09), who scheduled a press conference Tuesday, Dec. 17, on the issue. Clarke will join colleagues and advocates for a press conference calling for the Biden-Harris Administration to take specific action to protect immigrant communities while they are still in office. Among the participants at the conference, taking place at the House Triangle at the Capitol’s East Front, are Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20); Nils Kinuani, African Communities Together (ACT); Ronald Claude, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI); Gbenga Ogunjimi of the Nigerian Center and Daniel Tse, Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA).
President-elect Donald Trump has already articulated plans for strict border measures that include building detention centers, eliminating protections for some immigrants, eliminating pathways to citizenship and for mass deportations.
