Brooklyn distributor issues recall of prepackaged enoki mushrooms
EAST WILLIAMSBURG — ENOKI MUSHROOMS FROM AN ASIAN GOODS MARKET are being recalled, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration has announced. New Age International Inc., a distributor which the FDA lists as being in zip code 11206, has recalled its 200g (7 oz.) package of Daily Veggies enoki mushrooms because of possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. The recalled enoki mushrooms were distributed nationwide in retail stores. The product comes in a 200g, clear plastic package marked with UPC code 8809159458890 on the back label. The contamination was discovered after samples were collected from a store in Baltimore, Maryland, and subsequent analysis by the State of Maryland Department of Health Laboratories Administration revealed the presence of listeria in some packages. Remaining products in the warehouse were destroyed. Although no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers who have purchased packages of enoki mushrooms during October and November 2024 are urged to destroy the products immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-808-1018.
The Product Market Guide website shows that New Age International was established in April 2024.
