BAY RIDGE — A NEW GREEK GROCERY STORE, Alpha Bakery & Mediterranean Marketplace, has opened at 7717 5th Avenue, featuring a wide variety of Greek and other products straight from the Mediterranean, including cheeses, olives and olive oil, sweets and more. The store also offers fresh pastries and coffee and a hot food counter, with 10 to 15 dishes daily. Store co-owner Aris Tolis, who worked with his wife at a large Greek pastry chain prior to immigrating, told Greek-American newspaper the National Herald that the store aims to connect with not only the Greek population in Bay Ridge, but the entire New York metropolitan area. He says that some people commute from Long Island to purchase specific Mediterranean products.

“We opened in early October and are already very pleased, based on the response we have received from the public,” said Tolis to the National Herald. “There is Hellenism here in Bay Ridge and I can say that we rely on the Greeks, since 99% of the store is made up of Greek products.”
