Another human bone found in Brooklyn Bridge Park
BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK — PART OF A PELVIC BONE turned up in Brooklyn Bridge Park around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Gothamist and other outlets. The bone matches skeleton parts that previously washed up in the vicinity, the New York City chief medical examiner’s office told Gothamist. This is the fourth incident of unidentified human remains being found near Jane’s Carousel on the East River, according to the Brooklyn Eagle’s tally. Other bone fragments — part of a rib cage, a femur, a skull and more — were found in the area on Aug. 16, Aug. 18 and Aug. 31, the Eagle reported in August. Police didn’t say who made this latest discovery, and the investigation continues.
The East River’s strong currents change direction between flood and ebb tides about four times each day, according to the U.S. Energy Department. This current, along with wash from passing vessels, constantly pushes debris to the shore.
