City doesn’t buy pizzeria’s claims that ‘dining bus’ is not dining shed
WILLIAMSBURG — NICE TRY BUT MOVE IT, the city Department of Transportation told a Brooklyn pizzeria trying to get around the new sidewalk shed law law by using a school bus as a dining room, abc7ny reports. DOT isn’t buying it, however, and ordered the bus to hit the road. The tiny L’Industrie Pizzeria, at 254 S. 2nd St in Williamsburg, came up with the idea of setting up a “Pizza Bus” outside instead of building an official dining shed.
“It’s not a structure. It’s a legally parked car. Just so happened that people eat pizza in it,” co-owner Nick Baglivo told the news outlet.
New city rules required roadway outdoor dining sheds to be taken down by Nov. 29, though they can reopen, if permitted, again in the spring. Sheds without permits could face fines of $500 for a first offense and $1,000 for further offenses.
