‘Rebbe dollar’ found at Crown Heights cafe
CROWN HEIGHTS — WORKERS AT CROWN HEIGHTS’ ALMAH CAFE recently discovered a “Rebbe dollar” in a tote bag left in the cafe’s lost and found, and are searching for its owner, according to Anash. A Rebbe dollar is a $1 bill given out to Lubavitch sect synagogue attendees by Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson and other Rebbes; to many believers, they symbolize the blessings of charity, and can carry personal significance. The Rebbe dollar was found stapled to a prayer card inside of the bag, which did not have any personal identification and contained baby items, seeming to belong to a parent.
The cafe’s staff is asking the owner of the Rebbe dollar and Shir Hamalos prayer to contact Almah Cafe at: (914) 613-6795.
