MANHATTAN — LUIGI MANGIONE, 26, has been charged with the second-degree murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan, according to court records obtained late Monday by the Brooklyn Eagle. He was also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a forged instrument and possession of a silencer or similar device. (These charges could be updated.) The suspect was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after an employee called police, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday at a City Hall press conference.

Mangione was carrying multiple fraudulent IDs, a U.S. passport, and a firearm and suppressor consistent with the weapon used in the murder, Tisch said.  A fraudulent New Jersey ID matched the ID the suspect used to check into his New York City hostel before the shooting incident. “Additionally, officers recovered a handwritten document that speaks to both his motivation and mindset,” she told reporters.
