BOROUGHWIDE — In a record-breaking year for the city’s bicycle ridership, bridges over the East River reflected an 8.4% average daily increase in cyclists compared to 2023, with the Brooklyn Bridge setting the largest increase with 5,504 average daily cyclists.
New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez attributed the significant growth for four years straight to the city’s increased safe-cycling infrastructure, especially on the four bridges crossing the East River: the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg and Ed Koch Queensboro bridges.
“More and more New Yorkers are opting to get around by bike because it’s a fast, convenient and safe way to travel around the city,” said Rodriguez. “Another year of record-breaking ridership over our four iconic East River bridges illustrates how NYC DOT’s efforts to build safe cycling spaces has spurred tremendous growth.”
