Visitation Monastery bids farewell to its tree lighting tradition as it prepares for permanent closure
BAY RIDGE — THE VISITATION NATIVITY and the lighting of the Christmas trees on the grounds of Sisters of the Visitation Monastery, 8902 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn, have been an annual tradition in Bay Ridge for 30 years. Now, with the monastery’s closing, the community will gather for one final lighting here, Sunday, December 8, at 4 p.m. Father Chris Heanue, rector of the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, will preside at Mass at 4 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel. The tree lighting will take place right after Mass.
Maimonides Medical Center donated $1000 to help cover the cost of the electricity, as they do every year. Maimonides held a luncheon earlier this week to celebrate its outreach to churches in Brooklyn that hold tree lightings.
