Russian stowaway held temporarily in notorious Brooklyn jail
DOWNTOWN — SVETLANA DALI, 57, the Russian national who stowed away on a flight from JFK to Paris last week, made her initial appearance Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn Federal Court before Magistrate Judge Robert Levy. The judge issued a temporary order of detention until 2 p.m. Friday in order to work out a bail package and a verifiable residence. According to the legal complaint obtained by the Brooklyn Eagle, on Nov. 26, Dali snuck onto Delta Airlines flight DL264 at JFK without a boarding pass by “entering through a special lane for airline employees masked by a large Air Europa flight crew.” Dali is represented by Michael Schneider of the Brooklyn Federal Defenders.
Schneider said that Dali had complained about the deplorable conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center Brooklyn where she was housed Wednesday, likening it to torture, according to CNN.
