Brooklyn Congressman Hakeem Jeffries declines to endorse any mayoral candidate
CAPITOL HILL — HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADER AND BROOKLYN CONGRESSMEMBER HAKEEM JEFFRIES declined to endorse Mayor Eric Adams or any other candidate in next year’s race for the city’s mayoral seat, the Daily News reported on Friday, Dec. 6. Jeffries, who was first elected to Congress in 2012, pledged support to the winner of the June Democratic primary in the general election, but demurred on expressing any thought on whether Adams should have four more years in Gracie Mansion.
Jeffries told reporters, “I’m going to work as hard as I can to make sure that the next mayor of the city of New York is a Democrat.”
Jeffries earlier this year also refrained from saying whether Adams should be removed from office in the midst of influence-peddling charges that have marred his administration as mayor.
