Two Maimonides Health leaders honored with Impact Awards
BOROUGH PARK AND QUEENS — TWO MAIMONIDES HEALTH LEADERS were presented with the 2024 Gay City News Impact Awards at a recent event held at Terrace on the Park. Nilar Thwin, M.D., director of Maimonides’ LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Clinic, and Michael Brincat, director of Special Events and Corporate Sponsorships, were among dozens of New York City LGBTQIA+ community members and allies whom Gay City News and Schneps Media honored in their 2024 Impact Awards. Thwin leads a team that provides inclusive, multidisciplinary mental health care to LGBTQIA+ communities across Brooklyn and beyond. Under her leadership, the clinic actively collaborates with Brooklyn-based LGBTQIA+ community organizations and recently participated in the Advancing Healthcare Excellence and Inclusion (AHEI) project, an initiative of the Healthcare Association of New York State.
Brincat is an impassioned healthcare professional and LGBTQIA+ advocate at Maimonides Health who, in his 16-plus years with the organization, has worked for accessible care for the community as well as diversity, equity and inclusion for employees and staff at Maimonides. Brincat played a critical role in creating a strong LGBTQIA+ employee support system at Maimonides, launched the LGBTQIA+ employee resource group, expanded Pride celebrations and brought in Maimonides as a major supporter of Brooklyn Pride.
This is the ninth year of the Impact Awards, which honor the work and achievements of individuals across various fields who have made a difference in the LGBTQIA+ community in New York City and beyond.
