Canarsie man barricades himself in home

CANARSIE — AN “EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED” MAN barricaded himself inside his home in Canarsie on Monday evening, reports News 12, where the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team worked for multiple hours to have the man exit before he was escorted to an ambulance. News 12 reported that the man did not seem of sound mind, as he could not hold himself up to enter the ambulance on his own.

Prior to the confrontation with police, the man had knocked on his neighbors doors on East 100th Street between avenues J and K throughout the afternoon. Witnesses said he claimed to be either a police officer or a mailman, and attempted to gain access to their homes.

The man was transported to Brookdale Hospital for psychological evaluation and is in custody. No other updates have been made public.
