Artist Emily Manwaring is the special guest for ColorLab this week at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. Join this hands-on workshop to create dazzling shoe sculptures inspired by Manwaring’s mixed-media art. Using materials like paper, tempera sticks, tulle and jewels, participants will craft celebration-worthy kicks in 30-minute sessions starting every 45 minutes. Spots are first come, first served, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure your place.

A Queens native, Emily Manwaring has exhibited her work in renowned galleries such as Thierry Goldberg, Swivel Gallery and the Southampton Arts Center, with features in publications like The New Yorker and Artnet.

Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s ColorLab will be a space for young creative minds to experiment with art and new ideas through collage, sculpture and other artistic forms of expression. … In this new space, young creative minds will receive the opportunity to experiment with art and new ideas by exploring collage, sculpture and other artistic forms of expression.” — Andrea Leonhardt, BK Reader

“Brooklyn’s own Emily Manwaring is nothing short of exceptional. Her lively and vibrant work has been featured in galleries all over the world. Telling vibrant stories of prosperity and union, her work is rooted in the themes of culture, emotion, and female solace.” — Drew Townsel, Intersect

Journey LIVE @ Brooklyn Academy of Music

Concerts, Video Games, Orchestral

BAM Strong, Harvey Theater, 651 Fulton St., Fort Greene

Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7

Immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind blend of video gaming and live music at BAM’s presentation of “Journey LIVE.” In this groundbreaking event, composer Austin Wintory, the American Composers Orchestra and Ode to Joy come together for an interactive orchestral performance of the Grammy-nominated score from “Journey.”

Hailed as “the most beautiful game of its time” (IGN), this experience transforms gameplay into a dynamic live concert. As audience members navigate the game’s desert landscape, the orchestra responds in real time, making every performance uniquely unpredictable.

Composed by Austin Wintory … it’s unsurprising that Journey was the first videogame to be honored for a [Grammy] nomination. Journey is recognizably orchestral yet spare and distanced from the dramatic surges that frequent other video game soundtracks. Wintory also made it free from cultural clichés.” — Carol Pinchefsky, Forbes

“One of the biggest standouts from Journey is the score composed by Wintory. To this day, Journey‘s soundtrack remains the only videogame score to be nominated in the “Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media” category at the Grammy awards — a nomination which put Wintory up against heavy-hitters including John Williams and Hans Zimmer.” — Owen Danoff, Screen Rant

Usher: Past Present Future Tour & Women’s Championship Classic @ Barclays Center

Barclays Center, 620 Atlantic Ave., Downtown Brooklyn

On Dec. 5 and 6, Barclays Center hosts Usher’s electrifying “Past Present Future” tour, which has garnered rave reviews after being initially postponed in August due to Usher suffering a neck injury. The show offers over 45 songs from Usher’s 3-decade-long career and also boasts excellent special effects to recreate versions of Usher from different eras — but don’t worry, the real Usher will be there, too.

Then, the Women’s Championship Classic hits the court on Saturday, Dec. 7, with some of college basketball’s most dominant programs. Tennessee will take on Iowa at 7 p.m., followed by UConn vs. Louisville at 9 p.m. Last week, UConn star Paige Buekers became the first NIL athlete to score her own signature shoe deal, announcing the launch of her Nike G.T. Hustle 3 basketball kicks.

Embarking on the Past Present Future tour, his first in eight years, Usher is firing on all cylinders as he takes the stage for a two-hour extravaganza. Somehow even better at 45 than he was at 25, when his 2004 chart-topping, hit album ‘Confessions’ dropped, the R&B legend runs through more hits than most fans realize he has and weaves in tracks from his latest album, ‘Coming Home.” — Anika Reed, USA Today

“The Huskies defeated both Oregon State and then-ranked No. 18 Ole Miss thanks to their overwhelming defense, tight ball movement and standout performances from both Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd. In Monday’s AP Top 25 Poll, UConn remained ranked No. two in the Week 5 edition of the standings.” — Maggie Vanoni, The Register Citizen
