Pay raises begin this week for experts in building and maintaining state’s infrastructure
STATEWIDE — ARCHITECTS, ENGINEERS, GEOLOGISTS and other experts in civic infrastructure will receive raises as part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s commitment to maintaining the state’s vital infrastructure. The governor has announced a series of pay increases for professional engineers, architects, land surveyors, landscape architects and geologists within New York State agencies who are committed to building, maintaining and strengthening vital infrastructure that New Yorkers use daily.
About 2,600 employees across 18 state agencies will be receiving pay increases ranging from $7,000 to $13,500 depending on their position and geographic location, to bolster recruitment and retention among the state’s workforce. The pay raises, which take effect this week, on Thursday, Dec. 5, will benefit 1,620 employees in the Department of Transportation, 542 employees in the Department of Environmental Conservation, 70 employees in the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, 60 employees in the Department of Health and 57 employees in the Office of General Services. These pay increases will also reinforce economic development efforts and improve resiliency in the face of climate change and extreme weather.
“New Yorkers rely on the skills and expertise of engineers to build roads and bridges, construct large scale buildings, and prevent disasters from occurring,” Hochul said. “Engineering and the licensed positions that support it are some of the most competitive jobs in the world.”
