NYC schools expand ‘FutureReadyNYC’ career readiness program
CITYWIDE — NOW 15,000 STUDENTS across 135 NYC public high schools will have access to an expanded FutureReadyNYC career-readiness program, Mayor Eric Adams and Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos said at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The expansion adds 36 additional schools to the program, and introduces two new career pathways: HVAC (heating ventilation and air-conditioning) and decarbonization, as well as human and social services. The program connects students to “rigorous, tailored coursework, real job credentials, paid work-based learning, and puts them on a pathway to good-paying careers,” Adams said. The $53 million initiative launched in 2022 with anchor partners including CUNY, State University of New York, Northwell Health and Google.
Katheryn Mosso, a sophomore at Boys and Girls High School, is in a related career program in architectural drawing, she told the audience at Monday’s event. She recently participated in a workshop with industry partner Passive House for Everyone. “We built miniature Passive House exterior walls, models to learn about energy-efficient building designs,” Mosso said.
