Refreshment stands, closed since COVID-19, returning to Staten Island Ferry
STATEN ISLAND/ MANHATTAN — FOOD AND DRINK CONCESSIONS will return to the Staten Island Ferry in the next two months, NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez and NYC Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Andrew Kimball announced Monday. This will mark the first time refreshments have been offered on the ferryboats since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The city chose the Dunkin’ company, famous for donuts and coffee, to handle the concessions via a competitive process launched by a Request for Proposals. The 10-year, renewable contract also allows alcohol sales, and Dunkin’ is pursuing the permits necessary to sell beer.
The first two ferries to serve onboard refreshments will be the Staff Sergeant Michael H. Ollis and the Dorothy Day, the city agencies said in a statement. Food and drink concessions will later be added to additional ferryboats in the fleet.
