BERGEN BEACH — AS PART OF CHABAD’S ANNUAL KINUS HASHLUCHIM gathering, the Chief Rabbi of the Muscovite State, Rabbi Berel Lazar, visited Bergen Beach’s Russian-speaking community at the request of his former student, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Weisberg. Lazar attracted a massive crowd, filling the Bergen Beach facilities he toured wall-to-wall, according to CrownHeights.info.

Lazar shared inspiring stories of his native Moscow and showcased what the community says is resilience and shared joys and sorrows. Attending this event were the Sephardic Rabbi of Mill Basin, Yrimi Levi, the Ashkenazi Rabbi Akiva Polchak and Weisberg’s father, Rabbi Mordechai Weisberg, director of Moscow, Russia’s Jewish Communities. Kinus Hashluchim is an annual conference of Jewish rabbis held on the Shabbat before the Hebrew month of Kislev, which began at sundown on Dec. 1.

Kislev is the month in which Chanukah, celebrating the dedication of the Second Temple and the miracle of the oil that lit the sanctuary, is observed.
