CITYWIDE — THE CITY COUNCIL’S LGBTQIA+ Caucus last week announced a set of proposed policies to defend queer New Yorkers ahead of the upcoming second Trump administration, when the GOP will have control of both Congress and the White House, reports Gay City News. The 11-proposal policy platform, based on the idea that Republicans are likely to cut social programs benefiting queer individuals, calls for funding, legislative action and other supports for key focuses within the LGBTQ+ community: arts and culture, education, government operations, health care, homelessness, immigration, older adults, public safety, sex work and foster care.

Notably, the platform calls for enshrining public access to critical health care like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PreP), a medication regime that dramatically decreases the likelihood of HIV spreading from one person to another. The GOP has been critical of PreP being mandated in insurance formularies.
