BAY RIDGE — STATE SENATOR ANDREW GOUNARDES and Councilmember Justin Brannan unveiled Tuesday over $6.4 million in new funding to enhance Bay Ridge’s waterfront greenspace, according to a press release. The money will be used to build comfort stations.
Total investments in Bay Ridge’s waterfront now approach a whopping $58 million, ensuring expanded greenspaces, upgraded paths, lighting and additional amenities like bike racks and fitness areas. Current initiatives include the reconstruction of the Shore Road promenade, greenway and 4th Avenue entrance; upgrades to the Vinland Playground; the repaving of John Paul Jones Park; construction of a new greenway in Leif Ericson Park; the installation of new fencing and the revitalization of walking paths in Owl’s Head Park.
“I ran for office in 2018 on the promise that our community deserves a world class waterfront just like every other neighborhood,” said Gounardes. “Our local parks are the lungs of our city,” said Brannan. “Shore Road Park, the Greenway, and the Promenade are some of the brightest gems of our community, and for good reason.”
