The Brooklyn Bar Association transformed its Remsen Street headquarters into a haven for oenophiles and foodies on Wednesday, Nov. 13, hosting a “Wine-Tasting Night” with food pairings for members and guests.
The event, which doubled as a fundraiser for scholarships, was hosted by retired Surrogate’s Court Judge and former BBA president Hon. Frank Seddio and his immediate successor, Joseph Rosato.
“We have no idea if this is going to work or not, so we’re going to do the best we can,” Rosato quipped, setting the tone for an evening filled with good spirits — both figuratively and literally.
The wine was generously donated by Vias, represented at the event by Federico Zanella. Rosato encouraged attendees to consider wine as a holiday gift, noting, “You can put a case together made up of various different wines. You don’t have to take home a case of just one wine.”
Justice Seddio, however, kept his criteria refreshingly simple. “I’m very particular about which wines I drink,” he joked. “It has to either be red or white.”
Food pairings were provided by Vinny’s of Carroll Gardens, a choice that Seddio claimed required extensive research. “We had to go twice to taste the food to make sure it was good enough for the event,” he said. Rosato was quick to clarify, “It was actually three times.”
Tickets were priced at $100 per person, with additional opportunities to purchase the donated wine. Proceeds from the evening will fund a scholarship for a Brooklyn Law School student, a cause close to the hearts of the association’s members. Beyond the fundraising goals, the event served as a chance for the legal community to come together in a relaxed, social setting.
