CITYWIDE — NYC’S NEW SCHOOLS CHANCELLOR Melissa Aviles-Ramos on Wednesday announced that public school budgets won’t be cut midyear for those schools with enrollment losses in 2024-2025. Due to enrollment fluctuations, about half of the city’s schools would have been subject to disruptive mid-year funding cuts totaling $157 million. The other half of schools experienced increased enrollment over the year; those schools are slated to receive an additional $146 million. All school leaders will receive personalized support in budget and procurement matters.

“I am proud that in direct response to feedback from our school communities, schools will not only receive funding, but also personalized support designed to help them make the most of this funding,” Aviles-Ramos said in a statement.

Aviles-Ramos took over as chancellor on Oct. 15 after former Chancellor David Banks stepped down amid an extensive investigation into multiple members of the Adams administration.
