Esteemed judges share insights on trial assignment parts at Columbian Lawyers CLE event
The Columbian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn hosted a meeting on Nov. 7 at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island, featuring a panel of esteemed jurists who shared insights into navigating trial assignment parts (TAPs).
The speakers included Hon. Adam Silvera, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the New York City Courts; Hon. George Silver, retired Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the New York City Courts; Hon. Judith McMahon, former Administrative Judge for Richmond County; and Hon. Pamela Fisher, a Supreme Court Justice in Kings County.
The seminar, titled “TAP Your Fears Away — Helpful Hints When Appearing in a Trial Assignment Part,” drew a large audience of attorneys eager to learn practical strategies for managing cases in these critical court divisions over plates of pasta.
Trial assignment parts, which oversee the efficient scheduling and assignment of trial-ready cases, play a vital role in New York’s bustling court system. Attorneys often face challenges such as last-minute judge assignments, scheduling delays, and pressure to settle cases. The panelists provided actionable advice and shared their personal experiences to help attendees better navigate these obstacles.

A Bronx native and Hofstra Law graduate, Judge Silver has held numerous judicial and administrative roles, including overseeing the Trial Assignment Part in Manhattan. His career also includes developing innovative programs like early settlement mediation for medical malpractice cases, further cementing his reputation as a forward-thinking leader.
Justice Pamela Fisher, who has served on the Supreme Court in Kings County since 2015, earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1990. Before joining the bench, she held various public service roles, including serving as an assistant deputy general manager for the New York City Housing Authority and as a principal law clerk to Justice Mark Partnow.
