City announces new Cypress Hills BID
CYPRESS HILLS – THE CITY Department of Small Business Services on Monday announced a new Cypress Hills Fulton Business Improvement District along Fulton Street in Brooklyn, the result of a decade of partnership between local merchants, the department and the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation.
SBS in 2016 commissioned a comprehensive study on opportunities for growth in Cypress Hills, which returned recommendations including street cleaning and beautification initiatives; marketing local restaurants, cultural landmarks and arts; activating underutilized public spaces; and organizing local merchants to advocate for business needs. The department then invested $1.4 million in projects to support the revitalization of Cypress Hills and East New York, including beautification efforts, placemaking events and the installation of new lighting on Fulton, among other projects, while fostering relationships between local merchants, property owners, and residents.
New York City now boasts a robust network of 76 BIDs, with three formed during the Adams administration.
