Goldman: Most guns traced by ATF in the Caribbean came from the U.S.
NATIONWIDE — A FEDERAL STUDY found that 73% of firearms recovered and traced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the Caribbean between 2018-2022 came from the United States, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-10) announced on Monday. The Government Accountability Office studied the role that American-made firearms play in Caribbean nations’ gun violence at the request of Goldman and other top officials.
“American firearms traffickers aren’t just fueling a gun violence epidemic here at home, they’re also arming cartels abroad and contributing to the drug and human trafficking operations at the border, including the fentanyl crisis,” Goldman said in a statement.
Goldman said Congress must pass legislation like Texas Rep. Joaquín Castro’s ARMAS Act and his own Disarming Cartels Act “to keep American manufacturers from fueling the crisis at the border.”
