NEW YORK/NATIONWIDE — THE FBI WARNS THAT a nationwide campaign of nasty and racist text messages sent earlier this month to Black people has expanded to include high school students, Hispanics and LGBTQ+ communities. In a statement on Friday, the agency said that some recipients were told via text or email that they were selected for deportation or told to report to a re-education camp.

“Although we have not received reports of violent acts stemming from these offensive messages, we are evaluating all reported incidents and engaging with the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division,” the FBI said. Recipients of these messages should report them to the FBI by phone at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or online.

In addition, recipients of racist and threatening messages in New York can contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Bureau via phone at 800-771-7755, email [email protected] or online.
