Williamsburg Bridge subway route suspended after train hits commuter on Lower East Side
WILLIAMSBURG TO LOWER MANHATTAN — THE J AND M SUBWAY LINES WERE SUSPENDED during part of the morning rush hour after a person was reported struck by a train Friday morning around 7 a.m., according to a Notify NYC Alert transmitted at 7:36 a.m. The NYPD is investigating an incident in which a train struck the person at the Delancey St-Essex St. station in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Service on the J line was halted between Marcy Av in Brooklyn and Broad St., and on the M train between Myrtle Ave. and Lafayette St. As of 9:53 a.m. on Friday, the MTA website showed that M trains were running with delays in both directions after emergency teams assisted a person who was struck by a train at Delancey St-Essex St. This is the last stop in Manhattan before Marcy Ave. on the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge.
According to Spectrum News NY1, no information was available on the victim’s condition or what led up to the person’s being struck.
