Newly-launched civil service exam opens eligibility across several public safety agencies
CITYWIDE — A NEW CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WILL ENABLE ELIGIBILITY FOR MULTIPLE PUBLIC SAFETY POSITIONS, and with only one fee, Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner Louis A. Molina announced on Friday, Nov. 15. This first-of-its-kind civil service exam series will allow candidates to qualify for multiple critical public safety positions with a single exam. The first of the three public safety combination exams will help fill nearly 900 positions available across multiple city agencies, including New York City Police Department (NYPD) school safety agents, NYPD traffic enforcement agents, special officers of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, the Administration for Children’s Services, NYC Departments of Finance, Health and Mental Hygiene and Sanitation Dept. enforcement agents. The exam will also qualify applicants for the Departments of Social Services, and Transportation, the NYC Housing Authority, NYC Public Schools, NYC Health + Hospitals, the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, and the District Attorney’s Offices for Kings County, New York County and Bronx County. Following the launch of the public safety combination exam, which is currently open until Nov. 29, two more exams are planned — the second in spring 2025 with a third to follow.
The multiple-choice exam will take place at DCAS’ testing centers across the five boroughs beginning on Jan. 10, 2025. Candidates who pass the exam will be placed on an eligible hiring list ranked by exam score.
