New Yorkers United for Childcare marks first birthday with fundraiser party
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A NONPROFIT DEVOTED TO CHILDCARE ADVOCACY will celebrate its one-year anniversary at a benefit hosted at BRIC (Brooklyn Information & Culture) on Saturday, Nov. 16. Formed in 2023, New Yorkers United for Childcare is a group of over 6,000 parents, would-be parents, grandparents and elected official partners fighting for free, universal child care for the entire city. During its first year NYUC has become a leading voice in the fight to build a fairer, more livable city for families to call home. NYUC, along with City Council and other like-minded advocates, successfully fought some of the most severe proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget cuts and secured key wins, including the reversal of $20 million in 3-K cuts and securing a baseline $500 million in early childhood education programming from the federal fiscal cliff. Several elected officials — representing or from Brooklyn — who are planning to attend Saturday’s celebration include Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, City Comptroller Brad Lander, State Sen. Andrew Gounardes, Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest, City Councilmembers Shahana Hanif and Sandy Nurse. Queens Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas of Queens is also expected.
This is a ticketed event. More information is available on NYUC’s website.
