CITYWIDE – PUBLIC ADVOCATE JUMAANE Williams took aim at Mayor Adams online on Thursday, reports amNY. “It appears Eric Adams’ transformation from ‘The Biden of Brooklyn” to ‘The Trump of Brooklyn’ nears completion,” Williams wrote in a post on X, in response to the mayor praising President-elect Trump’s selection of Elon Musk to co-lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, which Trump and Musk say will go after wasteful expenses. While Adams hailed the intention to cut red tape, others are concerned. What “efficiency” means has not been clearly defined, and many fear cuts to critical federal programs could be incoming.

Williams, a progressive and frequent critic of Adams, would become interim mayor if Adams were to step down or be removed by the governor over his ongoing federal bribery charges. Observers in October predicted the public advocate was preparing to enter the race for the Democratic mayoral primary in the next election after Williams hired campaign consultants.

Adams had previously referred to himself as the Biden of Brooklyn, during his tenure as Brooklyn Borough President.
