Quoted on Bloomberg Radio, Rep. Malliotakis reiterates opposition to congestion pricing
CITYWIDE — QUOTED THURSDAY ON BLOOMBERG DAYBREAK, Brooklyn Congressmember Nicole Malliotakis (R-11) on Nov. 14 vowed to prevent congestion pricing from taking effect, even as Gov. Kathy Hochul planned to announce the same day that she is reviving it. The new congestion pricing plan will lower the original $15 toll to $9 for most vehicles to enter Midtown and Lower Manhattan, the New York Times reported on Thursday. The new plan would also be expedited, with the MTA board convening to approve it next week so that it can take effect before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. As a staunch opponent of congestion pricing, Malliotakis was quoted on Bloomberg Radio as saying, “We’re looking for every legal and legislative avenue to stop congestion pricing. And we think it’s very cynical that she paused it just so she could try to help the Democrats in an election and now has brought it back and is trying to jam it through before President Trump takes office.”
Malliotakis’ statement was from a bipartisan rally on Tuesday. State and local elected officials within her southern Brooklyn/Staten Island district also expressed their opposition to congestion pricing at that event, held near the Staten Island entrance Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, a toll crossing.
