Registration is now open for Colgate Women’s Games
CITYWIDE —REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the 49th season of the Colgate Women’s Games, the nation’s longest-running indoor Track & Field series for girls and women. Now through Jan. 5, 2025, athletes can register for free online at ColgateWomensGames.com. Meets take place on dates between Dec. 29 and Feb. 1 at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, 216 Fort Washington Ave. in upper Manhattan. More than 100 academic scholarships worth $2,000, $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners by sponsor Colgate-Palmolive.
The Colgate Women’s Games were founded and directed by Brooklyn’s legendary Fred Thompson in 1974 with the support of the Colgate-Palmolive Company. Thompson was an Olympic track team coach who founded the all-girls Brooklyn Atoms Track Club before Title IX gave girls opportunities in sports, according to WBUR/NPR. The current Meet Director is Cheryl Toussaint, Olympic medalist and original member of Thompson’s Brooklyn Atoms.
