NYC Comptroller: Trump poses ‘significant threats’ to city’s budget, infrastructure and people
CITYWIDE — THE ELECTION OF DONALD TRUMP “poses significant threats” to New York City’s budget, economy, infrastructure and people,” according to a new report from the New York City Comptroller’s office, “Protecting New York City.” Trump’s proposals threaten NYC’s public schools, hospitals and housing, Comptroller Brad Lander writes in the report.
The Trump administration’s planned elimination of infrastructure and climate investments could halt key transit and resiliency projects, while a spike in inflation caused by his proposed economic policies would reduce housing production. Immigrants, LGBTQ+, those who need abortion care, union organizers and other targeted groups would see rollbacks to their civil rights that jeopardize their lives and safety, according to the report. Lander recently led a roundtable of more than 30 civic, business, labor, religious and community leaders to discuss how to best prepare to protect the city and targeted residents.
The report “provides a clear-eyed view of those threats, so that New Yorkers can prepare to face them together,” Lander said in a statement, adding, “New Yorkers have faced many threats and crises in the past, and we do it best by coming together across communities.”
