CITYWIDE — NYC RESIDENTS HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, Nov. 15, to comment on the city’s proposed change to the Fair Fares program, which would increase the income eligibility standard from 120% to 145% of the federal poverty level (about $21,837 for a single person) for half-priced MetroCards. People can comment via email, fax, mail or attend a remote hearing via Zoom on Nov. 15, from 10-11 a.m.

Around 340,000 New Yorkers are signed up for Fair Fares, and the new expansion will make a further 200,000 eligible, but transit advocates say the program is under-used and under-publicized, as nearly a million NYC residents could potentially qualify for the cards.

MetroCards work on city buses, subways and Access-A-Rides but cannot be used on suburban railways, express buses or the AirTrain. For full details, visit the NYC Rules website.
