Trump announces cabinet picks: Zeldin for EPA, Stefanik to UN
NATIONWIDE – PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP on Monday began announcing his choice of cabinet members for the upcoming administration, reports Reuters, including some New York names: former Republican governor candidate Lee Zeldin was appointed to head the Environmental Protection Agency, where he is likely to cut regulations, in line with Trump’s policies; upstate U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik was nominated as ambassador to the U.N., and is likely to focus on the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
Other cabinet picks announced so far include Sen. Marco Rubio for secretary of state, U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz for national security advisor and South Dakota governor Kristi Noem for secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee was also announced as ambassador to Israel.
Brooklyn Rep. Nicole Malliotakis congratulated Stefanik on X, writing, “Elise was a fantastic Conference Chair and she’ll be a great Ambassador. Looking forward to working with her in her new role based here in NYC!”
