Annual Veterans Appreciation Day held at Carmine Carro Community Center
MARINE PARK — FOR THE FOURTH year in a row, residents gathered at Carmine Carro Community Center to commemorate veterans from within Assemblymember Jaime R. Williams’ District 59, with dozens of servicemen and local leaders in attendance.
Assemblymember Lester Chang and state Senator-elect Steve Chan, both vets, were also at Sunday’s celebrations, and expressed their support for men and women who have committed their lives to their country, emphasizing that this group is a small but honorable portion of the population: “There are less than two million service members,” said Chang, who served in the Navy, according to BK Reader. “There are more farmers than those in the military.”
Each year, new servicemen are added to a host of banners displayed in honor of their sacrifice, with 132 of those military servicemen being honored so far. This year’s honorees included George R. Broadhead of the Marine Corps, Edward Delaney and Lenox R. Hutson of the Army, Andrea Hodge of the Women’s Army Corps, and Noelle Penatello of the Navy.
