Bay Ridge Catholic Academy students learn importance of the armed services during Veterans Day assembly
BAY RIDGE — A SPECIAL GUEST FROM THE US ARMY NATIONAL GUARD VISITED BAY RIDGE CATHOLIC ACADEMY on Thursday for the school’s Veterans Day tribute, ahead of the national holiday on Monday, Nov. 11. The academy invited Major Anthony Perlongo, a Military Intelligence Officer with the Army National Guard to speak at an assembly of students in fifth through sixth grade. Perlongo discussed his career choice and training and explained the distinction between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
“Major Perlongo explained the importance of the United States Armed Forces and how they protect our country. Bay Ridge Catholic Academy thanks all of those who serve and have served,” said Paul Morisi, the school’s principal. Following his presentation, Perlongo invited students to take part in a push-up challenge, and a couple students even had the chance to try on his tactical bulletproof vest.
Prior to the Veterans Day presentation, students were inducted into the Bay Ridge Catholic Academy Leadership Institute, and student of the month awards were presented.
